Process for making a surface-modified, granulated alkali metal metasilicate pentahydrate, and use thereof
Abstract
Abstract A process for making granules of a surface-modified alkali metal metasilicate pentahydrate either by heating alkali metal metasilicate pentahydrate granules at a temperature of 60-80°C for 1-20 seconds, or by spraying alkali metal metasilicate pentahydrate granules with an alkali metal silicate solution having a temperature of 60-100°C and the composition Si0 2 .XNa 2 O.YH 2 0 wherein X = 0.5-1.1 and Y = 3-5. The surface-modified granules have a low tendency to giving off water, thereby reducing the risk of decomposition of the chlorine compound which, together with the metasilicate granules and other conventional components, is included in the dishwashing or other detergent composition.
