Abstract

Abstract A device for removing a band (2) wrapped around a bundle (1) of sheets by means of a cutting device (11). The cutter (7) of the cutting device is arranged on the plane on which the bundle is transported in such a way that it dips into a side face of the bundle, cutting along the entire length of the bundle and thereby severing the band located at right angles to the side face. The severed band (2) is grasped on the side opposite the cutting by a hook (13) of a pull-off device (12) provided opposite the cutting device (11), and removed at right angles to the direction in which the bundle (1) is transported.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 16
Claim 1
Independent Claim 133 words
An apparatus for removing a band (2) from a bundle of sheets (1) formed of substantially flat sheets, comprising a transport means (3a, 3b, 4a, 4b) which transports the bundle of sheets (1) to a debanding unit in which the band is severed by a cutting element (7) of a cutting means (11) and then removed from the bundle by means of a removing means (12), characterized in that the cutting element (7) is disposed parallel to the plane of the sheets of the bundle of sheets being transported, and in that the cutting element (7), dipping into the abutting edge of the bundle which extends in the direction of transport, cuts along the entire length of the bundle, thereby severing the band in its portion (2) extending transversely across this abutting edge.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 36 words
The apparatus according to claim 1, characterized in that the cutting element (7) is a rotary blade whose direction of rotation is opposite to the relative movement between the cutting means (11) and the bundle (1).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 33 words
The apparatus according to claim 2, characterized in that the rotary blade is mounted so as to be axially displaceable so that it can yield to any uneven areas present in the bundle.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 35 words
The apparatus according to claim 3, characterized in that the rotary blade dips about 2 to 6 mm into the abutting edge and the angle of attack to the band is about 30 to 50°.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 29 words
The apparatus according to claim 1, characterized in that the cutting element is a stationary blade or a hot wire and the bundle is transported past the cutting element.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 66 words
The apparatus according to claim 1, characterized in that the removing means (12) has a grasping element (40) which grasps the band (2) at the abutting edge of the bundle (1) which is opposite the abutting edge into which the cutting element (7) dips, and in that the grasping element removes the band from the bundle transversely to the direction of transport (28) of the bundle.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 35 words
The apparatus according to claim 6, characterized in that the grasping element has a hook (13) whose free pointed end dips into the abutting edge of the bundle (1) and engages begind the band (2).
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 38 words
The apparatus according to claim 7, characterized in that the tip (13a) of the hook (13) has a blunt wedge shape so that it does not come in contact with uneven areas present in the bundle of sheets.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 41 words
The apparatus according to claim 7, characterized in that the hook (13) can be moved between a position in which it dips into the abutting edge of the bundle (1) and a position in which it is located outside the bundle.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 67 words
The apparatus according to claim 9, characterized in that a clamping plate (14) is disposed opposite the hook (13), said plate being movable between a position in which it is spaced from the free end of the hook and a position in which it lies against the hook, and in that the clamping plate (14) can be removed from the bundle (1) together with the hook (13).
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 31 words
The apparatus according to claim 6, characterized by a sensor which detects the position of the band (1) on the bundle and whose signal triggers the activation of the grasping element.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 35 words
The apparatus according to claim 11, characterized by a light barrier (15) as the sensor between the free end of the hook which dips into the bundle and a transceiver element disposed outside the bundle.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 27 words
The apparatus according to claim 6, characterized in that the removing means is disposed after the cutting means, relative to the direction of transport of the bundle.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 37 words
The apparatus according to claim 1, characterized in that the bundle transporting system has rollers (4a, 4b) located opposite each other transversely to the direction of transport which are resiliently mounted perpendicular to the direction of transport.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim 51 words
The apparatus according to claim 6, characterized in that a band transporting system (30, 31, 32, 33) is provided parallel to the direction of transport of the bundle and on the plane thereof, the band removed from the bundle being fed to said system and flattened out before being transported further.
