Abstract

Abstract @ A pen (10) has a conductive casing (12) with an ink writing tip (21). The tip (21) is detachably mounted on the movable end of a piezoelectric tube (26), which has an opposite end (27) fixed to a mounting in the casing (12), so that the tube is mounted in cantilever fashion. The tube (26) has inner and outer tubular electrodes between which an electric signal is generated according to the pressure on the tip during pen use. A second piezoelectric tube (24), also mounted in cantilever fashion so as to have a movable end (25) and a fixed end (23), is located behind the tip and has a different arrangement of five electrodes for providing x, y signals according to the transverse accelerations of the pen during use. The pressure and accelerometer signals are electrically processed by electronic circuitry (22) before leaving the pen on cable (8).

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 69 words
Data input pen for an electronic signature verification system including at least one piezoelectric member (24, 26) mounted in cantilever fashion and extending longitudinally of the pen from a mounted end (23, 27) to a movable end (25, 28) and having electrode means (34, 36, 38, 40, 42; 52, 54) thereon for producing a signal responsive to relative movement between said mounted and movable ends arising during pen use.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 69 words
Data input pen for an electronic signature verification system including at least one piezoelectric member (24, 26) mounted in cantilever fashion and extending longitudinally of the pen from a mounted end (23, 27) to a movable end (25, 28) and having electrode means (34, 36, 38, 40, 42; 52, 54) thereon for producing a signal responsive to relative movement between said mounted and movable ends arising during pen use.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 23 words
Data input pen as claimed in claim 1 in which said member has a hollow tubular form which is coaxial with the pen.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 20 words
Data input pen as claimed in any preceding claim in which the electrode means are symmetrical about the pen axis.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 22 words
Data input pen as claimed in any preceding claim in which the electrode means extend for substantially the length of the member.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 38 words
Data input pen as claimed in any preceding claim in which a said piezoelectric member (24) for producing transverse acceleration signals is arranged rearwardly in the pen of a said piezoelectric member (26) for producing axial pressure signals.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 47 words
Data input pen as claimed in claim 5 in which said piezoelectric member (24) for producing transverse acceleration signals has said electrode means in the form of a common electrode on one surface of the member, and four spaced electrodes on the other surface of the member.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 38 words
Data input pen as claimed in claim 5 or 6 in which said piezoelectric member (26) for producing axial pressure signals has said electrode means in the form of an inner tubular electrode and an outer tubular electrode.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 28 words
Data input pen as claimed in claim 5 in which said piezoelectric member (26) for producing axial pressure signals carries a forward writing tip (21) of the pen.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 25 words
Data input pen as claimed in any preceding claim including electronic circuitry (22) disposed in the pen, and leading to a pen output cable (18).
