Abstract

In the case of an exhaust gas turbocharger with a radial or axial turbine and at least partially radially flowed turbine guide device (8), an adjustable ring slide (2) enables the turbine inflow cross section to be steplessly controlled. The ring slide, which slides between the guide device (8) and the moving blades (1), is adjusted by means of an axial displacement. The front edge around which the gas stream flows is designed to conform to the flow in order to avoid detachments downstream. In the case of radial turbines, the inflow angle to the turbine blades remains approximately constant over the entire control range. The impact loss on the turbine blades is largely eliminated. The stepless control of the turbine inflow cross-section results in improved part-load behavior of the supercharged engine by adapting the amount of air supplied to the engine to the combustion conditions and achieving smoke-free operation in the entire speed range.
