Abstract

Abstract The activity of nickel synthetic mica-montmorillonite (Ni-SMM) for hydrocarbon conversions (e.g. cracking and isomerization) is improved by an after-treatment with a releasable active halogen other than fluorine; preferably with hydrochloric acid. Preferably the catalyst contains palladium.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 94 words
A process for the preparation of a catalytically active metal silicate, characterized in that an at least partly crystalline metal silicate having a crystal lattice which consists substantially of a triplex layer structure, containing in the central layer octahedrally co-ordinated aluminium which may be entirely or partly substituted by one or more metals from Group 8 of the Periodic Table of elements, and in the two outer layers tetrahedrally co-ordinated silicon which may be entirely or partly substituted by aluminium, is treated with one or more compounds comprising releasable active halogen other than fluorine.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 94 words
A process for the preparation of a catalytically active metal silicate, characterized in that an at least partly crystalline metal silicate having a crystal lattice which consists substantially of a triplex layer structure, containing in the central layer octahedrally co-ordinated aluminium which may be entirely or partly substituted by one or more metals from Group 8 of the Periodic Table of elements, and in the two outer layers tetrahedrally co-ordinated silicon which may be entirely or partly substituted by aluminium, is treated with one or more compounds comprising releasable active halogen other than fluorine.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 39 words
A process as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the metal silicate is treated with a compound which comprises chlorine and which compound can further release, optionally after a heat treatment, one or more protons and/or hydrogen chloride.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 21 words
A process as claimed in claim 2, characterized in that the compound comprises chlorine-containing acid and/or hydrocarbylammonium chloride and/or ammonium chloride.
Claim 5

A process as claimed in claim 3, characterized in that the compound contains hydrochloric acid.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 28 words
A process as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the metal silicate consists at least partly of synthetic mica-montmorillonite in which aluminium is partly substituted by nickel.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 23 words
A process as claimed in claim 5, characterized in that the catalytically active metal silicate contains of from 20 to 36 %w nickel.
