Abstract

Abstract For checking the authenticity of security documents, in particular of tickets or the like, it is proposed that one of the two substances of a colour reaction system, consisting of an organic colour forming substance which emits electrons and a colour developing substance which receives electrons, is applied to the paper document (1) and that the surface region (5) of the paper document (1) bearing this substance is written on or printed on with a dispensing instrument (7) discharging the other substance. The substance discharged by the dispensing instrument preferably has a different colour from the reaction colour of the colour reaction system or is coloured to suit this purpose. Complementary colours are particularly suitable. Crystal violet lacton is a suitable example of a colour forming substance. Aluminium hydrate or acidic phenolic resin can be used as the colour developer. The dispensing instrument is preferably a felt pen (7) or ballpoint pen which is soaked with the liquid colour forming substance and, if appropriate, with colouring matter. It can alternatively be constructed as a printing instrument, the ribbon (29) or colour pad of which is soaked with the colour forming substance and, if appropriate, with a colour additive. <IMAGE>
