Abstract
Abstract Ozone inactivated microorganisms are employed as vaccines. The inactivated microorganism retains its morphology so that upon vaccination the vaccine containing the inactivated microorganism produces an effective immunogenic response in the host to provide protection from the live microorganism.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
19 words
A vaccine for immunizing a mammalian host which comprises an ozone inactivated pathogenic micro-organism in a physiologically acceptable carrier.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
19 words
A vaccine for immunizing a mammalian host which comprises an ozone inactivated pathogenic micro-organism in a physiologically acceptable carrier.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
12 words
A vaccine according to Claim 1, wherein said microorganism is a virus.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
13 words

Claim 5
Dependent Claim
12 words
A vaccine according to Claim 1, wherein said microorganism is a bacterium.
Claim 6
Independent Claim
56 words
A method for producing a vaccine, which comprises exposing a pathogen in a liquid medium to an ozone containing gas, while maintaining a large surface area contact between said liquid and said gas, at moderate temperature for a time sufficient to inactivate said pathogen, and isolating said inactivated pathogen and formulating it in-a physiologically acceptable medium.
Claim 7
Independent Claim
56 words
A method for producing a vaccine, which comprises exposing a pathogen in a liquid medium to an ozone containing gas, while maintaining a large surface area contact between said liquid and said gas, at moderate temperature for a time sufficient to inactivate said pathogen, and isolating said inactivated pathogen and formulating it in-a physiologically acceptable medium.
Claim 8
Independent Claim
56 words
A method for producing a vaccine which comprises exposing a pathogen in a liquid medium as a thin film to an ozone containing gas at moderate temperatures for a time sufficient to inactivate said pathogen, and isolating and formulating said inactivated pathogen in a physiologically acceptable medium in an amount sufficient to provide an immunogenic response.
Claim 9
Independent Claim
56 words
A method for producing a vaccine which comprises exposing a pathogen in a liquid medium as a thin film to an ozone containing gas at moderate temperatures for a time sufficient to inactivate said pathogen, and isolating and formulating said inactivated pathogen in a physiologically acceptable medium in an amount sufficient to provide an immunogenic response.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
40 words
A method according to Claim 6, wherein said thin film is formed by slowing rolling a cylindrical vessel containing a small amount of a nutrient medium as said liquid medium and the ozone concentration is at about 0.1 to 10ppm.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
21 words
A method according to Claim 7, wherein said exposing is at a temperature in the range of about 10 to 50°C.
Claim 12
Independent Claim
16 words
A method according to any of Claims 6 or 7, wherein said pathogen is a virus.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim
13 words
A method according to Claim 9, wherein said virus is an influenza virus.
Claim 14
Independent Claim
16 words
A method according to any of Claims 6 or 7, wherein said pathogen is a bacterium.
Claim 15
Independent Claim
49 words
A method for producing a vaccine which comprises exposing a pathogen in an agitated liquid medium to a stream of small bubbles of ozone containing gas at moderate temperature for a time sufficient to inactivate said pathogen, isolating said inactivated pathogen and formulating it in a physiologically acceptable medium.
Claim 16
Independent Claim
49 words
A method for producing a vaccine which comprises exposing a pathogen in an agitated liquid medium to a stream of small bubbles of ozone containing gas at moderate temperature for a time sufficient to inactivate said pathogen, isolating said inactivated pathogen and formulating it in a physiologically acceptable medium.
Claim 17
Dependent Claim
27 words
A vaccine according to any one of Claims 1 to 4 in dosage form, the microorganism being present in an amount sufficient to produce an immunogenic response.
