Process for the preparation of bimodal highly concentrated aqueous polymer dispersions
Abstract
Highly concentrated, bimodal aqueous plastic dispersions are produced by emulsion polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers in the presence of emulsifiers and free-radical initiators by a first latex containing a dispersed plastic A and an aqueous phase, a second latex containing a dispersed plastic B and an aqueous phase , and a monomer phase containing monomers C, is added, the average particle sizes of the plastic particles of A and B differing by a factor between 2 and 16, the total weight of A and B and C being 100 parts by weight and the total weight of the aqueous Phases is at most 70 parts by weight, and the monomers C are allowed to polymerize.
