Abstract

Abstract An activity sensor mounted within the pacer detects the general activity level of the patient and alters the escape interval of the pacer between a preset minimum and maximum in response to the detected activity level of the patient. The sensor (32) is a force sensor responsive to mechanical activity and processing circuitry produces an output related to the frequency of the peak of the spectral energy of the force signals. The sensed force signals are bandwidth limited in circuit (34) to remove respiratory, cardiac and audio noise and a zero-crossing level detector responds to the highest amplitude components remaining. A slow waveform generator (36) produces a voltage related to the frequency of the processed activity signal and VCO (38) produces a rate signal related to the peak activity frequency to control the pacer escape interval. Upper and lower escape intervals and the slope of the relation between the activity level and the escape interval are programmable via telemetry link (441.
