Abstract

Abstract The display device has an instrument dial (1) of transparent material into which light can be introduced from the side. Underneath the instrument dial (1), a luminous pointer (10), which also consists of transparent material, is arranged rotatably about a pointer axis (15). At a deflection area (12) of the pointer (10), light rays are radiated in the longitudinal direction of the pointer. By designing the pointer (10) to radiate light, the pointer appears to be luminous to an observer. Since the surface (6) of the instrument dial (1) facing the observer is roughened apart from a concentric ring (5), but the ring is polished, the entire area of the instrument dial (1) is weakly luminous whilst the ring remains dark. It is only at the location of the pointer (10) that the latter shines brightly through the ring (5). <IMAGE>
