Method of coupling an integrated optical light guide and a monomode optical fibre
Abstract
Abstract The invention concerns a method of coupling an integrated optical light guide (G) to an optical fibre (F). The method consists in treating the fibre (F) over a terminal portion (T) in such a way as to modify over the terminal face (T) of the fibre the value of the parameter WO of the fundamental mode which is assumed to be Gaussian. This value of WO on exiting is substantially equal to 2ROOT WX WY, where WX and WY are the parameters defining the mode in the integrated light guide, which mode is assumed also to be Gaussian in two dimensions. The treatment consists in drawing the fibre or simply heating it in order to change its refractive index gradient. Application to optical telecommunications. <IMAGE>
