Abstract Translated from German Die Verbindungen der Formel worin der Ring A 1,4-Phenylen oder trans-1,4-Cyclohexylen, R 1 Alkyl oder Alkoxy mit 1 bis 12 Kohlenstoffatomen, oder, wenn A, 1,4-Phenylen ist, auch CN, R 2 Alkyl oder Alkoxy mit 1 bis 12 Kohlenstoffatomen, oder, wenn A 1,4-Cyclohexylen ist, auch Chlor oder Brom, und X Fluor, Chlor oder Wasserstoff bedeutet, mit der Maßgabe, daß mindestens einer der Substituenten R 2 und X ein Halogenatom ist, sind wertvolle Komponenten flüssigkristalliner Dielektrika für elektriooptische Anzeigevorrichtungen.The compounds of the formula wherein the ring A is 1,4-phenylene or trans-1,4-cyclohexylene, R 1 is alkyl or alkoxy having 1 to 12 carbon atoms, or, if A is 1,4-phenylene, also CN, R 2 is alkyl or alkoxy having 1 to 12 carbon atoms, or, if A is 1,4-cyclohexylene, also chlorine or bromine, and X denotes fluorine, chlorine or hydrogen, with the proviso that at least one of the substituents R 2 and X is a halogen atom, are valuable components of liquid crystalline dielectrics for electro-optical display devices.
