In a video tape recorder having means for receiving cassette (CA) containing a magnetic tape (MT), a pair of reel bases (93) and (104) for receiving a pair of reels provided in the cassette (CA), a drum (117) carrying magnetic head means for recording and/or playing video signal, a set of pinch roller (79) and capstan (41) for holding said magnetic tape (MT) therebetween, said magnetic tap (MT) being capable of being advanced by the driving force received from said capstan (41), and a mode setting arrangement for setting the video tape recorder in one of four modes of operations, which are: a stop mode in which the video tape recorder is in a condition ready for receiving a cassette (CA); a pause mode in which the magnetic tape (MT) extracted from the cassette (CA) extends around the drum (117) with said magnetic tape (MT) being maintained in still; a record or play mode in which the magnetic tape (MT) extracted from the cassette extends around the drum (117) with said magnetic tape being advanced with a predetermined speed; and a fast-rewind or fast-forward mode in which the magnetic tape (MT) runs along a predetermined tape path offset said drum (117) in a predetermined high speed in one of two directions, an improvement wherein said mode setting arrangement comprises: lever means (2, 107, 105) movably provided and having an engageable means (2a') and brake shoe member (105a and 105b); engaging means (98, 100) adapted for the engagement with said engageable means (2a'), said engaging means (98, 100) carrying a force transmission means (102) for transmitting a driving force to one of said pair of reel bases (93) and (104) when said engageable means (2a') engages said engaging means (98, 100) and for stop transmitting a driving force to none of said pair of reel bases (93) and (104) when said engageable means (2a') disengages from said engaging means (98, 100); and a cam member (lb) mounted on said pin (7) and provided operatively in association with said lever means (2, 107, 105) for moving said lever means (2, 107, 105) between a brake position in which said brake shoe member (105a, 105b) is held in contact with said pair of reel bases (104) and (93) and said engageable means (2a') engages said engaging means (98, 100), and a release position in which said brake shoe member (105a, 105b) is held apart from said pair of reel bases (104) and (93) and said engageable means (2a') disengages from said engaging means (98, 100), whereby when said cam member (lb) is so rotated as to locate the lever means (2, 107, 105) to said brake position, said stop mode is established, when said cam member (lb) is so rotated as to locate the lever means (2, 107, 105) to said release position, said pause mode is established, when said cam member (lb) is so rotated as to locate the lever means (2, 107, 105) to said release position, said record or play mode is established, and when said cam member (lb) is so rotated as to locate the lever means (2, 107, 105) to said release position, said fast-rewind or fast-forward mode is established.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim
31 words
A mode setting arrangement as claimed in Claim 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8, further comprises means for detecting leading and trailing end portions of said magnetic tape.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim
57 words
A mode setting arrangement as claimed in Claim 9, wherein said detecting means comprises an optical path (120a, 123, 120b, 124) which intercepts a path of magnetic tape, means (122) provided at one end of said optical path for emitting light rays, and means (126) provided at other end of said optical path for receiving light rays.
