Process for deodorizing finely divided ethylene polymers obtained by Ziegler-Natta catalysts
Abstract
The framework for the invention is a process for the deodorization of finely divided olefin polymers obtained directly by homopolymerization of ethylene or copolymerization of ethylene with minor amounts of higher a-monoolefins using Ziegler catalysts using an olefin polymer at a temperature below the crystalline melting temperature of the olefin polymer in question flowing medium that absorbs the odorous substances. It is characteristic of the process according to the invention that the medium is (i) a lower alkane or alkene, (ii) a fluorinated and / or chlorinated lower alkane or (iii) carbon dioxide, and that the flow takes place at a certain temperature and the medium flowing through is used under high pressure and in a certain amount. This process enables particularly rapid and effective deodorization of the olefin polymers and also a reduction in the low molecular weight components originally contained in them.
