Abstract

Abstract @ A filter device (10) for separating a foreign material-liquid mixture into distinct portions includes a holding tank (12). On a bottom of the tank is a permeable grid panel (28) formed with a series of elongated corrugations (32). The panel (28) connects with an impermeable inclined ramp (82) formed with corrugations of a like configuration. A conveying device (not shown) carried within the tank comprises a pair of spaced chain loops to which are connected a series of transversely positioned flights, each including a scraper plate having a corrugated edge which complementally mates with the corrugations (32) of the grid panel (28) and inclined ramp (82). As the liquid portion of the mixture flows through the grid panel, the foreign material is retained and collects to form a cake on the panel. Periodically the conveyor is activated and the scraper plates move over the grid panel corrugations (32) to remove the collected foreign material and move the foreign material up the inclined ramp (82) for disposition external of the tank.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 56 words
Filtering apparatus for separating suspended solids from a liquid comprising a tank for receiving a flow of liquid having solids suspended therein, said tank having a permeable wall which allows passage of liquid therethrough while causing suspended solids to deposit thereon, characterised in that said permeable wall includes a corrugated surface where suspended solids are deposited.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 56 words
Filtering apparatus for separating suspended solids from a liquid comprising a tank for receiving a flow of liquid having solids suspended therein, said tank having a permeable wall which allows passage of liquid therethrough while causing suspended solids to deposit thereon, characterised in that said permeable wall includes a corrugated surface where suspended solids are deposited.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 38 words
Filtering apparatus as claimed in claim 1 characterised by conveyor means adapted to remove retained solids from said corrugated surface, said conveyor means having a scraper means with an edge adapted to complementally engage with said corrugated surface.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 21 words
Filtering apparatus as claimed in claim 3 characterised in that said conveyor means is in a continuous loop for continuous operation.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 34 words
Filtering apparatus as claimed in claim 2 or 3 characterised by a filter media means disposed between said corrugated surface and said conveyor means to allow passage of liquid and to collect suspended solids.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 64 words
Filtering apparatus as claimed in claim 2 or 3 further characterised by a filter media sheet suppliable from a roll external of the tank which interfaces between the conveyor means and the corrugated surface to allow passage of liquid and collect suspended solids, the media sheet and suspended solids retained thereon being movable relative to the surface upon selective activation of the conveying means.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 24 words
Filtering apparatus as claimed in any of the preceding claims characterised in that the permeable wall is in the form of a grid panel.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 38 words
Filtering apparatus as claimed in claim 6 characterised by an inclined ramp carried within the tank which has a lower end connecting with the grid panel and an upper end communicating with a space external of the tank.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 16 words
Filtering apparatus as claimed in claim 7 characterised in that the ramp has an impermeable surface.
