Electrochemical cell with cathode material integrated in sintered solid electrolyte
Abstract
In a galvanic solid-state cell (1), for example of the Na / SbCl3 system, the cathode space is occupied by a self-supporting, porous sintered structure (2) made of solid electrolyte material, in the pores (4) of which the active cathode substance is incorporated. With the solid solid-state electrolyte separator (3), the porous structure (2) can be combined to form a uniform sintered compound with high ionic conductivity, which may also be followed by a porous sintered structure on the anode side for the absorption of the alkali metal (5). The fusible active electrode substances are introduced into the porous sections of the sintered compound by soaking. The porous solid electrolyte structure can also advantageously be applied to the separator system of cells with molten electrodes, e.g. of the type of the Na / S high-temperature cell.
