MAGNETRON CATHODE SPRAYING DEVICE.
Abstract
Rotating magnetron cathodic bombardment device intended to operate inside a chamber which can be evacuated to cover substrates which are also contained in the chamber. The cathode comprises an elongated cylindrical tube (120) having on its outer surface a layer (122) of the material or coating materials intended to be sprayed by bombardment. Magnetic means (126) is mounted with the tube and includes at least one row of U-shaped permanent magnets (164) extending along the tube. The tube is arranged horizontally and rotatably mounted in the coating chamber (121) so that it can rotate on its longitudinal axis relative to the magnets (164) to selectively bring different portions or segments of the same material of bombardment spraying or of different materials in a bombardment position with respect to the magnets and the magnetic field. Means are also provided for cooling the interior of the cathode.
