Abstract

Abstract A fire resistant support for the human body, for example a mattress or cushion, comprises a resilient block 12 closely enclosed by a fire resistant cover 13 which may be constituted by a piece 14 of sheet material adhered to the base of the block 12 and a further piece 15 of sheet material covering the upper surface and sides of the block 12. At least the part of the cover 13 adjacent the upper surface of the block 12 is of stretch material able to conform to deformations of the block caused, in use, by a human being.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 101 words
A resilient support for the human body, or a part of the human body, comprising a resilient block with a cover, characterised in that the cover (6, 13, 21) closely encloses the block (5, 12, 20) and is fire resistant rendering the support fire resistant, and in that at least that part (9, 22) of the cover (6, 13, 21) intended to lie between the resilient block (5, 12, 20) and a human being is of stretch material able to conform to the adjacent surface of the block when the support is subjected, in use, to deformation by a human being.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 101 words
A resilient support for the human body, or a part of the human body, comprising a resilient block with a cover, characterised in that the cover (6, 13, 21) closely encloses the block (5, 12, 20) and is fire resistant rendering the support fire resistant, and in that at least that part (9, 22) of the cover (6, 13, 21) intended to lie between the resilient block (5, 12, 20) and a human being is of stretch material able to conform to the adjacent surface of the block when the support is subjected, in use, to deformation by a human being.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 56 words
A support as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that said fire resistant cover (6, 13, 21) is made of fabric such that after one wash in water at 71 0 C the fabric fulfils the requirements (omitting the cleansing procedure) of Type C performance when tested according to Part 2 of British Standard No. 5867.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 82 words
A support as claimed in claim 1 or 2, characterised in that at least said part of the cover (6, 13, 21) intended to lie between the resilient block (5, 12, 2C) and a human being is made from a material which has an extension of at least 20 per cent in the width direction and at least 10 per cent in the length direction measured on a Fryma Extensiometer according to British Standard No. 4294 using a load of 3 kg.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 37 words
A support as claimed in claim 3, characterised in that said material has an extension of not less than 30 per cent in the width direction and not less than 15 per cent in the length direction.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 57 words
A support as claimed in any one of the preceding claims characterised in that said cover (6, 13, 21) comprises a piece of sheet material (14) adhered to an undersurface of the resilient block and a further piece of material (15) covering at least an upper surface and side surfaces of the resilient block (5, 12, 20).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 35 words
A support as claimed in any one of the preceding claims characterised in that at least said part of the cover (6, 13, 21) comprises a fabric incorporating a polyamide yarn and a cellulosic yarn.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 28 words
A support as claimed in claim 6, characterised in that the cellulosic yarn is formed into pile loops on the surface of said fabric adjacent the resilient block.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 47 words
A support as claimed in claim 6 or 7, characterised in that the cellulosic yarn constitutes at least 75 per cent by weight of the weight of said fabric and the fabric has a weight, after treatment with flame retardant, of at least 250 g/m 2 .
