Abstract

Abstract A cab (10) for a tractor or similar vehicle which has a heating and/or ventilating unit (13) which includes a fan for drawing air into the cab from an intake (11) via a connecting air passage (14). An air filter (17) is provided in the passage for filtering the air drawn in through the air intake (11) on its way to the heating and/or ventilating unit (13). A filter sealing surface (34) bounds part of the air passage for co-operating with the filter to ensure that the air passing through the passage passes through the filter. The filter (17) is inserted into and removed from the air passage via a filter access opening (18) which is closed by an access hatch (19) in the roof of the cab and filter securing means, in the form of wedges (20) on the underside of the hatch, ensure that, when the access hatch (19) closes the opening, the filter (17) is secured against the sealing surface (34). The access hatch 19 can be reached by an operator standing in the cab with his head and shoulders poking through an open escape hatch (35) which is provided in the cab roof adjacent the access hatch.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 185 words
A cab (10) for a tractor or similar vehicle, the cab having an intake (11) through which air can be drawn into the cab from outside, a heating and/or ventilating unit (13) which includes a fan for drawing air in and disturbing the air to the interior of the cab, an air passage (14) connecting the air intake and the heating and/or ventilating unit, a filter (17) in the passage for filtering the air drawn in through the air intake on its way to the heating and/or ventilating unit, the cab being characterised in that a filter sealing surface -(34) bounds a part of the passage for co-operating with the filter (17) to ensure that the air passing through the passage passes through the filter, a filter access opening (18) is provided into the air passage (14) for the insertion or removal of the filter, a filter access hatch (19) closes the access opening, and filter securing means (20) associated with the access hatch ensure that, when the access hatch (19) closes the opening (18), the filter (17) is secured against the sealing surface (34).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 185 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 25 words
A cab (10) according to claim 1 characterised in that the filter securing means (20) is carried on the inside of the access hatch (19).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 29 words
A cab (10*"according to claim 1 or claim 2 characterised in that the securing means comprises wedge members (20) which wedge the filter (17) against the sealing surface (34).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 53 words
A cab (10) according to any one of claims 1 to 3 characterised in that the filter (17) is secured against the sealing surface (34) so that the outer face (17a) of the filter through which air first passes on its journey to the heating and/or ventilating unit has a downwardly facing inclination.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 55 words
A cab (10) according to Claims 4 characterised in that the air passage (15a) between the outer face (17a) of the filter and the intake (11) is shaped so that any dust or debris which falls from the outer face of the filter tends to fall out of the intake under the action of gravity.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 35 words
A cab (10) according to any one of claims 1 to 5 characterised in that the filter access hatch (19) is held in its closed position over the access opening by bayonet-type quarter-turn fasteners (25).
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 27 words
A cab (10) according to any one of claims 1 to 6 characterised in that the filter access opening (18) is in the roof of the cab.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 54 words
A cab (10) according to claim 7 charaterised in that an escape hatch (36) is provided in the roof of the cab adjacent the filter access hatch (19) to enable an operator to reach the filter access hatch by standing in the cab with his head and shoulders poking through the open escape hatch.
