Abstract
Abstract Method for displaying and editing spatially related data in an interactive text processing system having a display (14), a keyboard (10), a printer (15) and a microprocessor (11) for storing conventional text data in a first format and spatially related data in a second format, consisting in converting a selected portion of the spatially related data in the first format to displayed data in the second format, and interactively editing the converted spatially related data that is displayed as if it were text data in first format.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim
174 words
Method for displaying and editing spatially related data in an interactive text processing system having a display screen (14), a keyboard (10), and a microprocessor (11) including a memory (23) for storing (1) programs, (2) conventional text data in a first format, and (3) spatially related data in a second format permitting data processing type operations to be performed by said microprocessor on said stored spatially related data in either an interactive or non-interactive mode, where the step of interactively editing text data stored in said first format and displayed on said screen is in accordance with a prescribed set of operator interactions with said screen and keyboard; said method being characterized by the steps of: converting at least a selected portion of said spatially related data stored in said memory in said second format to displayed lines of text data in said first format, and, interactively editing the spatially related data that is displayed as if it were text data in said first format in response to said prescribed set of operator interactions.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
22 words
Method according to claim 1 in which said step of interactively editing involves deleting at least one character of the displayed data.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
23 words
Method according to claim 1 in which said step of interactively editing involves adding at least one character to the displayed data. ,
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
25 words
Method according to claim 1 in which the said step interactively editing involves moving at least one displayed character from one position to another position.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
28 words
Method according to any one of claims 2, 3 or 4 further including reconverting the displayed data as edited to said second format and storing the reconverted data.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
50 words
Method according to any one of the preceding claims in which said second format comprises a row vector including a plurality of column vectors and where each vector includes an indication of the number of byte positions in said vector and a relative spatial position in a predetermined coordinate system.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
17 words
Method according to claim 6 in which the number of byte positions in a vector is variable.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
49 words
Method according to claim 6 or 7 in which the data stored in one portion of a column vector is either actual data or a pointer to a location in memory where the data is stored, depending on the data stored in a second portion of the column vector.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
102 words
Text processing system for implementing the method according to any one of the preceding claims, comprising a display (14) and its display refresh buffer (12), a keyboard (10), a printer (15), and a microprocessor (11) with a memory (23) including : a text buffer (27) for storing conventional text data in said first format before sending it to said display refresh buffer (12), a display format buffer (29) for storing spatially related data converted into said first format before sending it to said display refresh buffer (12), and a display data area (28) for storing spatially related data in said second format.
