Abstract

Abstract A colostomy pouch comprises a main part and a space separated there from by a partition (13) and containing a filter material, such as active carbon (20). The main space is provided with an inlet aperture (11) for tightly sealing the pouch to an abdominal opening, and between said main space and said separate space there is provided an aperture (14) in the partition (13) to conduct gases from said main space to said separate space where the gases, while passing through the active carbon (20), are conducted to a gas exhausting aperture. Gas-permeable porous material (19) may be provided in connection with the aperture (14) in the partition (13) and the gas exhausting aperture.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 143 words
A colostomy pouch of a material impervious to gas and liquid and having an inlet aperture or an indication for such inlet aperture (11), means (12) for tightly sealing said aperture to an abdominal opening, and a venting aperture (14, 17, 24) for exhausting gas, characterised in that the pouch comprises a space which is separated from the main part of said pouch by a partition (13, 16, 21) and which has a gas exhausting aperture or indication (15, 18, 23) for such aperture, showing where pouch material should be removed to form said gas exhausting aperture, and which contains a filter material (20), such as active carbon; and that said venting aperture (14, 17, 24) is provided or can be provided in said partition (13, 16, 21) at a distance from said gas exhausting aperture and said indication (15, 18, 23), respectively.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 143 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 50 words
A colostomy pouch as claimed in claim 1 and of rectangular shape, characterized in that the partition (13) extends between two adjacent pouch edges defining a triangular, separate space; and that the pouch corner positioned between said edges has been or can be removed to form said gas exhausting aperture.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 59 words
A colostomy pouch as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the partition (16) extends along part of the pouch periphery, defining an elongate conduit along said periphery, said gas exhausting aperture or indication being provided at one end of said conduit, the venting aperture (17) being provided in the partition (21) at the opposite end of said duct.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 68 words
A colostomy pouch as claimed in claim 3, characterized in that the venting aperture can be established by means of a cord (25) extending through the partition (21), the pouch space (10) and outward through the inlet aperture (11), the cord end located within the duct being connected with a plastic tab (24) or the like adapted to be pulled through said partition by means of said cord.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 45 words
A colostomy pouch as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that a gas-permeable porous material (19) is provided in said separate space, both in connection with the venting aperture (14, 17) and at the place of the gas exhausting aperture or indication (15, 18) thereof.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 23 words
A colostomy pouch as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that said separate space also contains a deodorizing substance.
