Abstract

Abstract An electronic control for a vehicle transmission having a clutch (21), the engagement of which is controlled by a control means (21, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29) responsive to a clutch engagement signal (S e ). An electronic speed ratio logic (11) for selection of the appropriate transmission gear ratio can produce a disengagement signal (S d ) which overrides the engagement signal (S e ) to cause the control means to disengage the clutch (21). A limiting means (15) is activated by a gear change signal (Sg) from the logic (11) to produce a limit signal (S I ) which partially overrides the engagement signal (S e ) to prevent full engagement of the clutch when the disengagement signal ceases, and the gear change signal is in operation.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 4
Claim 1
Independent Claim 137 words
A vehicle transmission electronic control having a clutch control means (22,24,25,26,27,28,29) responsive to an engagement signal (S ) for engagement of the clutch (21) and an electronic speed ratio logic (11) for the vehicle transmission which can produce a clutch disengagement signal (S d ) which overrides the engagement signal (S e ) to cause the clutch control to disengage the clutch during gear changes, characterised in that a clutch engagement limiting means (15) is responsive to a change gear signal (S ) from the logic (11) to produce a limit signal (S 1 ) which partially overrides the engagement signal (S e ) so that when the disengagement signal (S d ) ceases the limit signal (S 1 ) prevents full engagement of the clutch (21) whilst the gear change signal (S ) is in operation.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 137 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 46 words
A vehicle transmission control as claimed in Claim 1, characterised in that the limit signal (S 1 ) is caused to vary by a throttle position signal (V t ) indicative of throttle opening, so that the greater the throttle opening the smaller the limit signal.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 63 words
A vehicle transmission control as claimed in Claim 2, characterised in that the limiting means (15) comprises an inverting amplifier (51) that has one input which receives the throttle signal (V t ) and has another input connected to a potentiometer (53) which sets the operational voltage of the amplifier, and its output connected to the engagement signal ( S e ) .
