Abstract

A respiratory monitor, in which the respiratory activity is monitored by measuring the changes in the thoracic impedance caused thereby or other suitable parameters of the patient, has a threshold value circuit (21) which increases the responsiveness of the respiratory monitor as the amplitude of the respiratory signals decreases. A second threshold circuit (25) suppresses the measured signals below a predetermined amplitude threshold. A third threshold circuit (27, 29) raises the amplitude threshold below a predetermined respiratory rate as the respiratory rate falls.
