Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 18
Claim 1
Independent Claim 120 words
In a body-implantable lead of the type including a lead body having a distal end and at least one metal electrode means carried by the lead body at the distal end, the electrode means including a contact surface adapted to contact living tissue, the improvement wherein the lead further comprises a trauma-reducing, cushioning body of a soft, compliant, water-swellable, polymeric, water-insoluble material inert to body tissues and fluids, the material consisting essentially of a hydrogel which is ionically conductive, the body being carried and positioned on the metal electrode contact surface of the electrode means so as to be interposed between it and the body tissue to be contacted whereby flexible connection between the electrode and the tissue is established.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 120 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 28 words
The body-implantable lead of claim 1 wherein the electrode contact surface is at the tip of the lead and the hydrogel cushioning body is carried on the tip.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 16 words
The body-implantable lead of claim 1 wherein the electrode metal is platinum or an alloy thereof.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 13 words
The body-implantable lead of claim 1 wherein the hydrogel includes a crosslinked polymer.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 12 words
The body-implantable lead of claim 1 wherein the hydrogel includes a copolymer.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 13 words
The body-implantable lead of claim 1 wherein the hydrogel includes an acrylamide polymer.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 12 words
The body-implantable lead of claim 6 wherein the acrylamide polymer is crosslinked.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 13 words
The body-implantable lead of claim 1 wherein the hydrogel includes a methylacrylate polymer.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 14 words
The body-implantable lead of claim 1 wherein the hydrogel includes a crosslinked ethylacrylate polymer.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 22 words
The body-implantable lead of claim 1 wherein the hydrogel includes a crosslinked polymer of 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid or one of its salts.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 12 words
The body-implantable lead of claim 10 wherein the polymer is a copolymer.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 14 words
The body-implantable lead of claim 1 wherein the hydrogel includes a crosslinked vinylpyrrolidone polymer.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 12 words
The body-implantable lead of claim 1 wherein the hydrogel includes a copolymer.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 18 words
The body-implantable lead of claim 13 wherein the copolymer is comprised of at least two copolymerized hydrogel-forming monomers.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim 24 words
The body-implantable lead of claim 13 wherein the copolymer is comprised of at least one hydrogel-forming monomer and one non-hydrogel-forming monomer which are copolymerized.
Claim 17
Dependent Claim 14 words
The body-implantable lead of claim 1 wherein the lead is of the transvenous type.
Claim 18
Dependent Claim 14 words
