Abstract
Abstract 1. Bifunctional filter for the treatment of exhaust gases, in particular exhaust gases from diesel engines, by purifying the exhaust gases of solid particles by filtration and of gaseous harmful substances by catalytic treatment, comprising inlet and outlet chambers (4, 5) for the exhaust gases with the chambers (4, 5) separated from each other by walls (2) which consist of ceramic material and are permeable to gas but impermeable to particles, characterized in that only the sides of the walls (2) facing the outlet chambers (5) are coated with catalytically active material (6).
