Abstract

Abstract A method for time-marking sedimentation processes where two or more fractions in a sample containing liquid are to be separated entirely or partially by their specific weights in a tube or corresponding means. According to the invention, a plug (2) of a hydrophilic plastic substance in brought into contact with the sample. The plug (2) has original dimensions smaller than the inner diameter of the tube (1) and has a specific weight lying between the specific weights of the said fractions. The plug further is adjusted with respect to its dimensions and/or substance so as to attain a swelling degree sufficient for the plug to jam in the tube (1), to mark the separation line between the fractions (3, 4) after a predetermined period. Thereafter the position of the plug (2) in the tube is read.. The method is particularly advantageous in medical connections, especially at the determination of the sedimentation reaction of the blood. Hereby blood corpuscles (3) are separated from plasma (4) by the method. The invention comprises also a device for carrying out the method.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 134 words
1: A method of time-marking sedimentation processes where two or more fractions in a sample containing liquid are to be separated entirely or partially by their specific weight in a tube or corresponding means, characterized in that a plug of hydrophilic substance, preferably a'plastic substance, is caused to contact the sample, which plug has original dimensions smaller than the inner diameter of the tube and a specific weight lying between the specific weights of said fractions, and which plug with respect to its dimensions and/or substance is adjusted so as to attain a swelling degree sufficient for the plug to jam in the tube, to mark the separation line between the fractions after a predetermined period, and that after said period the position of the plug in vertical direction of the tube is read.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 134 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 22 words
A method as defined in claim 1, characteriz- ed in that the plug is inserted into the tube prior than the liquid.
Claim 4
Independent Claim 116 words
A device for time-marking sedimentation processes where two or more fractions in a sample containing liquid are to be separated entirely or partially by their specific weights in a tube, characterized in that a plug of hydrophilic substance is provided to be inserted into the tube, that the plug has original dimensions smaller than the inner diameter of the tube, that the plug has a specific weight lying between the specific weights of said fractions, and that the plug with respect to its dimensions and/or substance is adjusted so as to attain a swelling degree sufficient for the plug to jam in the tube, to mark the separation line between the fractions after a predetermined period.
Claim 5
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 30 words
A device as defined in claim 3, characterized in that the plug is a cylinder with a diameter corresponding to 70% to 95% of the inner diameter of the tube.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 30 words
A device as defined in claim 3, characterized in that the plug is a ball with a diameter corresponding to 70% to 95% of the inner diameter of the tube.
