Abstract

Abstract A double lever assembly for bicycle speed control comprising: a first lever (10) for operating a rear derailleur by means of a control cable in order to shift an endless drive chain from one rear sprocket onto a selected rear sprocket of a multiple freewheel, a second lever (26) for operating a front derailleur by means of a further control cable in order to shift the chain from one front sprocket onto another front sprocket of a chainwheel; and motion converting mechanism (40, 41) for converting pivotal motion of the first lever (10) into synchronized reciprocating motion of the second lever (20) so as to automatically center a guide cage of the front derailleur over a chain line thereby to prevent the chain from hitting the inside of the guide cage.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 4
Claim 1
Independent Claim 109 words
1 . A double lever assembly for bicycle speed control comprising a first shaft (7) supported by a mounting block (1), a first or rear derailleur operating lever (10) mounted on said first shaft (7), a second shaft (9) supported by said mounting block (1), and a second or front derailleur operating lever (26) mounted on said second shaft (9) characterized in that said second shaft (9) is inter-connected with said first shaft (7) by means of motion converting mechanism for converting rotational motion into reciprocating motion, through which said second lever (26) is reciprocated within a limited range in synchronism with pivotal movement of said first lever (10).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 109 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 199 words
The double lever assembly according to Claim 1 comprising a mounting block (1) including a first side wall (4) having a bore (6) formed therein and a second side wall (5) having a bore (8) formed therein, a first shaft (7) rotatably supported within said bore (6) and extending through said bore (6), a first or rear derailleur operating lever (10) mounted at one end (13) on said first shaft (7), means for preventing relative rotation of said first lever (10) with respect to said first shaft (7), means for restricting pivotal movement of said first lever (10) within a predetermined angular range, means for frictionally retaining said first lever (10) in a selected speed gear position, means for restricting pivotal movement of said second lever (26) within a predetermined angular range, and, means for frictionally retaining said second lever (26) in a selected speed gear position, characterized in that said bore (6) of the second side wall (5) is a slot (8) extending transversely of a longitudinal axis of the second shaft (9), and the shaft (9) is supported within the slot (8) and slidable back and forth with respect to the longitudinal axis of the slot (8).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 90 words
The double assembly according to Claim 1, characterized in that said motion converting mechanism comprises an eccentric pin (40) formed with an internal end wall of said first shaft (7), said eccentric pin (40) being not co-axial with said first shaft (7), a diametric guide groove (41) formed in an internal end wall of said second shaft (9), and said eccetric pin (40) projecting from said internal end wall of said first shaft (7) and extending into slidable engagement with said diametric guide groove (41) of said second shaft (9).
