Abstract

Abstract Method for identifying a process in a system comprising one or several processors (14) and a keyboard (10), a printer (34) and other devices (40). In the memory (22) are stored the identification codes of the primary nodes corresponding to the processors, of the subnodes corresponding to logical groupings or processes within a processor and the process identification codes. This combination of the node identification code and the process identification code allows to implement routines to communicate with various processes in several processors, using the same software interfaces as for communicating with processes in the same processor.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 4
Claim 1
Independent Claim 113 words
Method for identifying a process in a data processing system composed of one or more than one processor and having more than one copy of the process, characterized by the steps of : storing a process identification code for each process; storing a subnode identification code for a predefined address grouping of one or more processes within a processor; and storing a primary node identification code for a processor for identifying this processor, whereby work requests queued to a process within the system may be routed to any process in the system by the combination of the primary node and process identification codes for an efficient processing of work requests in the system.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 113 words
Method for identifying a process in a data processing system composed of one or more than one processor and having more than one copy of the process, characterized by the steps of : storing a process identification code for each process; storing a subnode identification code for a predefined address grouping of one or more processes within a processor; and storing a primary node identification code for a processor for identifying this processor, whereby work requests queued to a process within the system may be routed to any process in the system by the combination of the primary node and process identification codes for an efficient processing of work requests in the system.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 41 words
Method according to claim 1 further comprising : storing a primary node identification code for a second processor, whereby any process in the system is uniquely identified by a combination of primary node and subnode identification codes and process identification code.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 94 words
Method according to claim 1 or 2, whereby, the process identification code of a process included in each subnode is stored in a process address table including the number of process codes entered and an address of a process control block for each process executing under that subnode, and the identification of the subnodes is stored in a node address table for each processor having a primary node address and including the primary node identification, the number of subnodes within the primary node and the address for each process address table for each subnode.
