Stable aqueous impregnating solutions made from hydrolysed alkyltrialkoxysilanes
Abstract
The present invention treats aqueous solutions of hydrolysates of defined alkyltrialkoxisilanes which are water-soluble and stable over a period of several days. In these hydrolyzates, one to three of the alkoxy groups of the alkyltrialkoxisilanes are replaced by OH groups. The alkyl radical is preferably the propyl radical; but it can also be the isobutyl or ethyl radical. These aqueous solutions are prepared in a weakly acidic environment in the pH range between 1.0 and 7, preferably between 2.0 and 3.5. Additional heating should not take place, since the silanol formation is exothermic. The new aqueous solutions are suitable for hydrophobicizing inorganic oxide or silicate material and for impregnating foamed plastics.
