Abstract
Abstract The object of the invention is to provide a ribbon cartridge which can be made from bendable material such as paperboard or the like. The cartridge is folded around the ribbon connected to a supply spool and take-up spool from a blank having a top panel (1) joined to a bottom panel (35) by separated front panels (61). An extension (69) from top panel (1) is folded into the cartridge to form an internal post (19) separating said top panel (1) from said bottom panel (35). After folding the cartridge is glued together.

A blank of stiff, bendable material for forming a typewriter ribbon cartridge, said blank being characterized in that it includes: a first portion (1) for forming the top of said cartridge, said first portion (1) having at least two holes (2, 25') for receiving the hubs (3, 21) of a supply spool (5) and a take-up spool (23), said holes (2, 25') being separated sufficiently to permit a ribbon (27) wound on said supply spool (5) to be wound on said take-up spool (23); second and third separated portions (61) attached to said first portion (1) and bendable at their lines of attachment for forming the front of said cartridge; a fourth portion (35) attached to the sides of said second and third portions (61) opposite to the sides thereof attached to said first portion (1), said fourth portion (35) being bendable with respect to said second and third portions (61) for forming the bottom of said cartridge and having holes (37, 41) for receiving the hubs of said supply spool (5) and said take-up spool (23), corresponding in position to the holes (2, 25') of said first portion (1), said first portion (1) and said fourth portion (35) being bendable to define first aligned holes (2, 37) and second aligned holes (25', 41); a plurality of portions (65, 67, 69) attached at least to said first portion (1) and bendable with respect thereto to form side walls of said cartridge, and means (9, 7, 51) for joining said side walls to said fourth portion (35) to complete said cartridge.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
67 words
A blank according to claim 1, characterized in that it includes an extended side portion (69) bendably connected to said first (1) or said fourth portion (35) and of length to extend generally to the center of said first and fourth portions, said extended side portion (69) being bendable at said center to form a post (19) separating said first portion (I) and said fourth portion (35).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
54 words
A blank according to claim 2, characterized in that said extended side portion (69) has a bendable line to provide a side wall (71), and a hole (75) in the area between said bendable line and said post (19) to receive the hub (3) which is received by said first aligned holes (2, 37).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
81 words
A blank according to claim 2 or 3, characterized in that it comprises two ribbon guide portions (53, 57) bendably attached to said first portion (1) or said fourth portion (35), each on opposite sides of said second and third portions (61), adapted to be bent over to form a guide for the ribbon (27) moving between said spools (5, 23) and having a bendable line to provide an attachment tab (15, 17) adapted to be glued to the opposite portion.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
54 words
A blank according to any one of claims 2 to 4, character_ ized in that said extended side portion (69) has a part (77) extending beyond the part forming said post (19) and bendably connected thereto, said part (77) being adapted to generally surround a hole (25') of said second aligned holes (25', 41).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
54 words
A blank according to claim 5, characterized in that said extended side portion (69) is connected to said first portion (1), said fourth portion (35) comprising a slot (45) adapted to permit a drive roller (98) to ride against the outer layer of the ribbon as it is rolled on the take-up spool (23).
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
60 words
