Claim 1
Independent Claim
108 words
A hydraulic shock absorber including a piston (3) disposed within a hollow cylinder (2) in movable position responsive to a shock applied thereto, said piston defining a hollow vortex chamber (9,10) therein, said vortex chamber being communicated with fluid chambers (7a,7b) defined in the hollow cylinder to introduce a working fluid and to generate a vortex therein for producing an absorbing force, wherein the vortex chamber being so sized as where: h is the depth of the vortex chamber; Sv is the cross-sectional area of the vortex chamber; So is the effective cross-sectional area of the piston acting on the fluid to increase or decrease the pressure thereof.

A shock absorber as set forth in claim 1, wherein said piston (3) defines two vortex chambers (9,10) therein, said vortex chambers communicating with one another and having depths and cross-sectional areas related to the effective area of the piston in said specific relationship.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
53 words
A shock absorber as set forth in claims 1 or 2, wherein said cylinder further includes a pneumatic chamber (6) filled with a gas, which pneumatic chamber .is variable the volume thereof so that it can absorb the varying of the fluid pressure caused by varying of the volume of the piston rod.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
163 words
A hydraulic shock absorber for an automotive vehicle suspension comprising: a hollow cylinder (2) defining therein a fluid chamber filled with a working fluid; a piston (3) disposed within said fluid chamber and defining the chamber into upper and lower sections (7a,7b), said piston being movable along the longitudinal axis of said cylinder in response to the shock applied to the shock absorber, which piston has an effective sectional area effecting to the working fluid for varying the pressure thereof by motion along the longitudinal axis of the cylinder; a vortex chamber (9,10) defined with said piston and communicated with said upper and lower sections of the fluid chamber, said vortex chamber having a sectional area and a depth so related with respect to the effective area of the piston that the absorbing force produced by the vortex in the vortex chamber may not be effected against the shock within range where the piston stroke is too small to require full absorbing force.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
