Claim 1
Independent Claim
240 words
An industrial process control system comprising a plurality of control means operable to effect changes in the parameters of an industrial process, said parameters including rate of flow of materials in said process, said control means each being operable to effect changes in a respective one of said parameters in accordance with the demands of the operating requirements, computer means, and a visual display means coupled to said computer means, so as to display the status of the parameters of said process, characterized in that: a touch responsive panel overlies the screen of the display means; and the computer means is arranged to simultaneously define a plurality of target areas at different locations on said touch responsive panel, each target area corresponding to a different one of said process parameters, said computer means being responsive to said parameters in said process to control said display means to display the status of said parameters at the corresponding target areas, further responsive to a touch on said touch responsive panel to generate co-ordinate signals representing the position of the touch on said panel, and responsive to said co-ordinate signals representing a position in any one of said target areas to cause the corresponding control means to effect any change necessary in the corresponding parameter of said process in order to meet the operating requirement, the change in said corresponding parameter being displayed by said visual display means at the corresponding target area.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
117 words
An industrial process control system for controlling an industrial process according to Claim 1 characterized in that it comprises a plurality of regulating devices and associated device controllers for effecting control of process parameters including the rate of flow of materials in said process, said regulating devices and associated device controllers being interconnected through a communications link means to a control interface, said interface including said visual display means and means for simultaneously generating symbols on said visual display means representative of each of said process parameters, said visual display means responding to a change in a process parameter to cause a corresponding change in the symbol representative of such process parameter on said visual display means.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
106 words
An industrial process control system as recited in Claim 2, characterized in that said computer means is responsive to said co- ordinate signals representing a position in a first target area at one of said symbols to generate a first control signal and responsive to the co- ordinate signals representing a position in a second target area at said one of said symbols to generate a second control signal, said first control signal effective to increment the process parameter represented by said respective one of said symbols and the second control signal effective to decrement the process parameter represented by said respective one of said symbols.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
61 words
An industrial process control system according to Claim 3, characterized in that said first and second target areas are linearly displaced from one another along a line, the symbol representative of the corresponding process parameter being displayed linearly therebetween and increasing lengthwise in response to an increase in the parameter and decreasing lengthwise in response to a decrease in said parameter.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
57 words
An industrial process control system according to Claim 3, wherein the parameter represented by one of said symbols is increased by an amount proportional to the time that said first one of said target areas is touched and is decreased by an amount proportional to the time that said second one of said target areas is touched.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
20 words
An industrial process control system according to any preceding claim wherein the visual display means comprises a cathode ray tube.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
60 words
An industrial process control system as recited in Claim 2, or any claim appendant thereto, characterized in that said visual display means is selectively operable to display on said display surface a schematic diagram illustrating the flow path of the flow of materials in said industrial process and illustrating the operating states of said device controllers in said schematic diagram.
