Abstract

Abstract A ceramic honeycomb filter, suitable for removing fine particles contained in exhaust gases of internal combustion engines and the like, is formed of a ceramic honeycomb body (1) having a plurality of channels (2) extending from one end face (4) to another end face (4') of the body and sealing members (5, 6) fitted to the said end faces of the ceramic honeycomb body, which sealing members have sealing portions (5A, 6A) which block given channels at the end faces of the ceramic honeycomb body but do not block remaining channels opening at the same end face. The filter is produced by fitting the sealing members (5, 6) to the ceramic honeycomb body (1) and, preferably, bonding them thereto by means of an adhesive.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim 79 words
A ceramic honeycomb filter characterized in that it comprises a ceramic honeycomb body (1) having a plurality of channels (2) extending from one end face (4) of the body to another (4') and sealing members (5,6) fitted to the said end faces of the ceramic honeycomb body, which sealing members each have sealing portions (5A,6A) which block given channels of the ceramic honeycomb body and do not block opening portions of the remaining channels at the same end face.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 79 words
A ceramic honeycomb filter characterized in that it comprises a ceramic honeycomb body (1) having a plurality of channels (2) extending from one end face (4) of the body to another (4') and sealing members (5,6) fitted to the said end faces of the ceramic honeycomb body, which sealing members each have sealing portions (5A,6A) which block given channels of the ceramic honeycomb body and do not block opening portions of the remaining channels at the same end face.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 58 words
A ceramic honeycomb filter as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the sealing portions (5A) of one sealing member(s) block given channels (2)at one end face (4) of the ceramic honeycomb body and the sealing portions (6A) of the other sealing member (6) block the remaining channels (2) at the other end face (4') of the body.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 34 words
A ceramic honeycomb filter as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 characterized in that the sealing members (5,6) are bonded to each end face (4,4') of the ceramic honeycomb body with an adhesive.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 25 words
A ceramic honeycomb filter as claimed in claim 3 characterized in that the adhesive is an organic adhesive, a glass material or a ceramic material.
Claim 6
Independent Claim 80 words
A method for producing a ceramic honeycomb filter, characterized in that it comprises fitting a sealing member (5,6) having a sealing portion (5A,6A) which blocks given channels (2) of a ceramic honeycomb body (1) and does not block the remaining channels on the same end face to each of both end faces (4,4') of a ceramic honeycomb structural main body (1) having a plurality of channels (2) extending from one end face (4) to the other end face (4') thereof.
Claim 7
Independent Claim 80 words
A method for producing a ceramic honeycomb filter, characterized in that it comprises fitting a sealing member (5,6) having a sealing portion (5A,6A) which blocks given channels (2) of a ceramic honeycomb body (1) and does not block the remaining channels on the same end face to each of both end faces (4,4') of a ceramic honeycomb structural main body (1) having a plurality of channels (2) extending from one end face (4) to the other end face (4') thereof.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 57 words
A method as claimed in claim 5, characterized in that the sealing portion (5A) of one sealing member (5) blocks given channels (2) at one end face (4) of the ceramic honeycomb body and the sealing portion (6A) of the other sealing member (6) blocks the remaining channels and the other end face (4') of the body.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 35 words
A method as claimed in claim 5 or 6, characterized in that the sealing members (5,6) are adhered to each of the faces (4,4') of the ceramic honeycomb body (1) by means of an adhesive.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 23 words
A method as claimed in claim 7 characterized in that the adhesive is an organic adhesive, a glass material or a ceramic material.
Claim 11
Independent Claim 27 words
A method as claimed in any one of claims 5 - 8 characterized in that the sealing members (5,6) are prepared by extrusion through an extrusion die.
Claim 12
Independent Claim 27 words
A method as claimed in any one of claims 5 - 8 characterized in that the sealing members (5,6) are shaped by means of a pressing die.
