Abstract
Abstract A wire dot printer using fluid ink in which printing is carried out with the ink applied to the end faces (51 a) of printing wires (51). Guide holes of a front wire guide (52) guide the end portions of the wires (51) adjacent the printing end faces (51a) of the wires (51) and a rear wire guide (53) is positioned behind the front wire guide (52). An ink feeding path (50) is provided between the front and rear wire guide (52,53) communicating with the guide holes in the front wire guide (52).

Claim 1
Independent Claim
110 words
A wire dot printer for printing with fluid ink having a plurality of printing wires (51) which pass through guide holes in a front wire guide (52) and a rear wire guide (53), and means (50) between the front and rear wire guides for supplying fluid ink to printing end faces (51a) of the printing wires (51), characterised in that the said means comprises ink feeding channels (50), one end of each ink feeding channel (50) being connected to ink supply means (58,57,59) and the other end to ink recovery means (60,74,67), the arrangement being such that, each printing wire (51) passes through at least one ink feeding channel (50).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
35 words
A printer as claimed in claim 1 in which, during operation, ink passes through the ink feeding channels (50) and around the printing wires (51) to the printing end faces (51a) thereof by capillary action.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
21 words
A printer as claimed in claim 1 or 2 in which grooves (80,84) are provided in the ink feeding channels (50).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
20 words
A printer as claimed in any preceding claim in which the surfaces of the ink feeding channels (50) are uneven.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
49 words
A printer as claimed in any preceding claim in which the ink supply means (58,57,59), and the ink recovery means (60,74,67) are connected by by-pass channels (61,62) which are so formed that, during operation of the printer, ink flows more readily therein than in the ink feeding channels (50).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
53 words
A printer as claimed in any preceding claim in which, during operation, ink from the ink supply means (58,57,59) is prevented from flowing directly into the ink feeding channels (50) so that pressure surges in the ink supply are at least partly dissipated before the ink passes into the ink feeding channels (50).
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
39 words
;7. A printer as claimed in any preceding claim having means (64,68) for recovering ink which, during operation of the printer, is splashed through the rear wire guide (53) in a direction away from the printing end faces (51a).
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
24 words
A printer as claimed in any preceding claim in which the front side of the front wire guide (52) is provided with grooves (69).
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
24 words
A printer as claimed in any preceding claim having an auxiliary wire guide (71) which is slidably attached to the front wire guide (52).
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
22 words
A printer as claimed in any preceding claim in which at least some of the guide holes are connected to each other.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim
22 words
A printer as claimed in any preceding claim in which the diameter of the printing wires (51) is not more than 0.2mm.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim
40 words
A printer as claimed in any preceding claim in which, in operation, ink is supplied through the ink supply means (58,57,59) by a pump (155) and ink is recovered through the ink recovery means (60,74,67) by the said pump (155).
Claim 14
Dependent Claim
85 words
A printer as claimed in claim 12 in which the pump (155) comprises: a central shaft (106): a rotary plate (105) rotatable about the central shaft (106): a plurality of rollers (103) rotatably mounted around the circumference of the rotary plate (105); a housing (101) having arcuate guides (117) along the locus of revolution of the plurality of rollers (103); and a resilient ink supply tube and a resilient ink recovery tube (107) disposed between the arcuate guides (117) and the plurality of rollers (103).
Claim 15
Dependent Claim
29 words
A printer as claimed in claim 13 in which the plurality of rollers (103) consists of compression rollers (123) and recovery rollers (124) arranged alternately around the said circumference.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim
36 words
A printer as claimed in any preceding claim when used with ink containing at least 20% by weight of a wetting agent which has a saturated vapour pressure not greater than 0.1mm Hg at room temperature.
Claim 17
Dependent Claim
23 words
A printer as claimed in claim 15 in which the wetting agent has a viscosity of not more than 5OmPas at room temperature.
