Abstract

Abstract Isobutene unprepared from n-butane by dehydroisomerisation at 350-700°C in the presence of a catalyst comprising an element of group IIIa of the periodic system (e.g. gallium) on a support. The isobutene can be separated from the reaction products by etherification with methanol.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 51 words
A process for dehydroisomerisation of a hydrocarbon feedstock containing normal butane to iso-butene which comprises bringing the feedstock at an elevated temperature into contact with a catalyst composition comprising an element from Group IIIa of the Periodic Table or a compound thereof in combination with a support of OC-value below 45.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 51 words
A process for dehydroisomerisation of a hydrocarbon feedstock containing normal butane to iso-butene which comprises bringing the feedstock at an elevated temperature into contact with a catalyst composition comprising an element from Group IIIa of the Periodic Table or a compound thereof in combination with a support of OC-value below 45.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 15 words
A process according to claim 1 wherein a gallium compound is deposited on a support.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 13 words
A process according to claim 2 wherein the gallium compound is gallium oxide.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 20 words
A process according to claim 1 wherein gallium ions from a gallium compound are exchanged with cations on the support.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 21 words
A process according to any one of the preceding claims wherein the support is selected from silica, alumina, and a silicate.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 23 words
A process according to claim 5 wherein the support is a zeolite selected from aluminosilicates, a silicalite, a metal tectosilicate and a boralite.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 29 words
A process according to any one of the preceding claims wherein the concentration of gallium in the catalyst composition is between 0.05 and 20% by weight of the support.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 37 words
A process according to any one of the preceding claims wherein the dehydroisomerisation reaction is carried out by passing the feedstock in the vapour phase over the catalyst composition maintained at a temperature between 350° and 700°C.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 28 words
A process according to any one of the preceding claims wherein the isobutene formed is separated from the dehydroisomerisation reaction products by conversion thereof into methyl tertiarybutyl ether.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 22 words
A process according to claim 9 wherein the conversion to methyl tertiarybutyl ether is achieved by reacting the dehydroisomerisation products with methanol.
