Abstract

Abstract In a structure for supporting and guiding a vertically-movable pane in a side window of a motorvehicle body, the two posts (3) and the cross piece (4), which define the aperture of the window, form part of a support frame comprising two sheet metal half shells (7,8) which are joined together and have two mating flat edges which define a single tongue (11) arranged along the side edges and the upper edge of the window aperture in a plane which is substantially parallel to the general plane of the pane. Furthermore, the two posts (3) and the cross piece (4) are each provided with a gasket (12) for supporting and guiding the front edge, the rear edge and the upper edge, respectively, of the pane. The guide gasket (12) is secured within a channel of intermediate support member (20) which is, in its term, secured to the support frame. By this arrangement, the operations required for the manufacture of the structure are simple and economical, the aerodynamic characteristics of the car are improved and the noise during running is reduced.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 258 words
Structure for supporting and guiding vertically-movable panes in the side windows of motor vehicles, comprising a support frame including two vertical posts (3) and a crosspiece (4) which connects the tops of the two vertical posts (3) so as to define the aperture (5) of the window, said posts (3) and said crosspiece (4) each being provided with a gasket (12) for supporting and guiding the front edge, the rear edge and the upper edge of the pane, respectively, characterised in that the structure comprises two half-shells (7,8) each formed by a single piece of pressed sheet metal, coupled and connected to each other so as to define a lower panel (2) of the body and, above such lower panel (2), the said support frame, in that the two half-shells of pressed sheet metal (7,8) which are coupled to each other, have two flat mating edges (10) which define a single tongue (11) arranged along the side edges and the upper edge of the aperture of the window in a plane which is substantially parallel to the general plane of -the pane (6), and in that each guide gasket (12) is secured to an intermediate support member which is secured, in turn, to the support frame and has a substantially S-shaped cross-section, so as to comprise a first channel portion (13) embracing the tongue (11), and a second channel portion (14) facing the opposite side to the first channel portion (13), being arranged towards the exterior of the body and within which the guide gasket (12) is held.
