Abstract

Abstract An engine mounting structure for mounting an automotive engine (1) on the body structure of an automotive vehicle, comprising the parallel combination of a main oscillatory system (37) adapted to damp vibrations produced by the engine (1) during medium-speed cruising of the vehicle and an auxiliary oscillatory system (36) adapted to cancel the vibrations to be transmitted through the main oscillatory system (37) under high-speed cruising conditions of the vehicle for reducing booming noises to be produced in the vehicle cabin under such conditions. The auxiliary oscillatory system (36) comprises at least two rigid mass members (34,35;43,44) and at least three resilient blocks (31,32,33;41,42,46) structurally intervening between the main oscillatory system (37) and the mass members (34,35;43,44).

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim 154 words
An engine mounting structure for mounting an automotive engine on the body structure of an automotive vehicle, comprising at least one shock and vibration insulating unit which comprises: a first coupling member to be connected to the body structure of the vehicle; a second coupling member to be connected to the body structure of the engine and spaced apart from the first coupling member; a main resilient block structurally intervening between the first and second coupling members; characterized by vibration cancelling means (36) comprising at least one combination of a first mass member (34,43), a second mass member (35,44), a first auxiliary resilient block structurally intervening between said first coupling member (23) and said first mass member (34,43), a second auxiliary resilient block (32,42) structurally intervening between said second coupling member (24) and said second mass member, and a third auxiliary resilient block (33, 46) structurally intervening between the first and second mass members.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 154 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 157 words
An engine mounting structure as set forth in claim 1, characterized by that said main resilient block (22) consists of two substantially similar sections (22a,22b) spaced apart from each other and in which said first and second coupling members (23,24) have respective inner faces securely attached to said sections, said first and second auxiliary resilient blocks (41,42) being securely attached to the inner faces of said first and second coupling members, respectively, and being spaced apart from each other and from said sections, each of said first and second mass members (43,44) having a portion extending between said sections and between said first and second auxiliary resilient blocks, said third auxiliary resilient block (46) being closely interposed between the respective portions of the first and second mass members so that the portion of each of the mass members is closely interposed between said third auxiliary resilient block and each of said first and second auxiliary resilient blocks.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 24 words
An engine mounting structure as set forth in claim 2, characterized by that each of said auxiliary resilient blocks is constructed of compressible rubber.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 36 words
An engine mounting structure as set forth in any one of claims 1 to 3, characterized by that said combination constitutes one of two such combinations, the two combinations being provided across said main resilient block.
