Abstract
Abstract A process for the manufacture of a dimensionally recoverable article comprises forming a plurality of separate component parts thereof (1, 2, 3), joining the component parts together to form the article, cross-linking the polymeric material from which the parts are formed after they have been joined together, and then expanding the article. The process enables dimensionally recoverable articles of complex shape to be manufactured by high speed moulding processes or extrusion processes without the need for curing of the article during formation thereof.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 13
Claim 1
Independent Claim
65 words
A process for the manufacture of an article that is dimensionally-recoverable, which comprises the steps of forming a plurality of shaped component parts of the article from a polymeric material, assembling the component parts to form the article, bonding the component parts together, cross-linking the polymeric material after the component parts have been bonded together and then expanding at least a portion of the article.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
15 words
A process as claimed in claim 1, wherein at least one component part is hollow.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
40 words
A process as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, wherein the formed article is hollow having at least one outlet and, before expansion, has internal lateral dimensions that are greater than the lateral dimensions of the or any outlets.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
19 words
A process as claimed in any of the proceding claims, wherein the component parts are bonded together by welding.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
20 words
A process as claimed in claim 4, wherein the component parts are welded by a frictional or thermal welding process.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
32 words
A process as claimed in claim 5, wherein the parts have a circular cross-section in the region where they are to be welded together, and are welded by a spin welding process.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
24 words
7 A process as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein at least some of the component parts have been formed by extrusion.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
21 words
A process as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein at least two component parts are formed from different materials.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
29 words
A process as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein a preformed mass of adhesive is positioned within one or more component parts before they are joined together.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
18 words
A process as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein the polymeric material is cross-linked by irradiation.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim
18 words
A process as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 10, wherein the article is dimensionally heat-recoverable.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim
