Abstract

Abstract A magnetic brush developer has a toner dispenser cooperable with a removable toner container bottle (200) so that transfer of toner to the dispenser occurs without spillage or exposure of the toner to the external environment. The bottle (200) and dispenser have mating interfaces (216,218) which must be properly located, and then rotated, before dumping of toner from the bottle to the dispenser can occur. Thereafter, the bottle (200) is depressed to slide an apertured cap (204) from closure by a valve member (210) and to depress a valve disc (228) against a spring (230) to give access to the dispenser. The bottle mounting mechanism is positioned in a slidable cover (220) so that the toner content can be evenly distributed along the length of the dispenser, this length corresponding substantially to the length of the development zone.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 97 words
1 Apparatus for facilitating the transfer of flowable xerographic toner from a container to a replenisher or dispenser, characterised in that the container has a toner dispensing aperture (81,82; 124,125; 208) normally closed by first closure means (85; 122; 210), the replenisher has a toner refill aperture (59,60; 111,112; 222), normally closed by second closure means (67,68; 103; 228), and a container mounting mechanism which includes parts which cooperate with parts on the container to lock the container to the mounting mechanism by relative movement, such relative movement causing both closure means to be opened or openable.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 97 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 49 words
2 Apparatus according to claim 1, in which the container is movable in the mounting mechanism in the direction of relative movement, the second closure means being movable with the container and the first closure means being held stationary with the mounting mechanism, whereby both closure means are opened.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 28 words
3 Apparatus according to claim 2, in which the container is rotatable in the mounting mechanism and the closure means comprise valve discs rotatable about a common axis.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 24 words
4 Apparatus according to claim 1, 2 or 3, in which the closure means are held in the closed positions by mechanical detent means.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 50 words
5 Apparatus according to any preceding claim, in which the replenisher has a slidable elongated cover on which the toner container mounting mechanism is supported, attachment of a container enabling communication between replenisher and container and sliding of the cover enabling distribution of toner along the length of the replensiher.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 19 words
6 Apparatus according to claim 5, in which a toner stirrer is attached to the cover within the replenisher.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 38 words
7 Apparatus according to claim 1, in which the container is movable in the mounting mechanism in one direction to lock the container therein, and is movable in another direction to open the first and second closure means.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 31 words
8 Apparatus according to claim 7, in which the locking movement of the container is rotating about an axis and the opening movement is longitudinal in the direction of the axis.
