Abstract

Abstract A conveyor belt of the honeycomb type in which open-work belt sections 2 of cranked or wavey form extend between and intermesh pivotally at transverse rods 1 which pass through apertures in longitudinal components 4 of the belt sections and extend alongside main cross components 3 of the belt sections joined in staggered relationship to the ends of the longitudinal components, is strengthened laterally against distortion by additional cross components 5 which extend between and are joined to the longitudinal components at the opposite sides of the transverse rods to the main cross components. The belt sections are preferably unitary plastics mouldings. As illustrated the belt sections each extend across the full width of the belt and the longitudinal components at the sides of the belt have sockets 14 defined at their free ends which receive the opposite ends of the transverse rods and retain the transverse rods to the belt sections.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 153 words
A conveyor belt of the honeycomb type comprising a series of transverse rods (1) and a plurality of open-work belt sections (2) extending between and pivoted to the transverse rods (1), each belt section (2) being of cranked or wavey form comprising a series of longitudinal components (4) which extend longitudinally of the belt, are spaced transversely of the belt, have apertures (7) therein through which the transverse rods (1) pass, and are joined at their ends by rows of main cross components (3) extending transversely alongside the transverse rods (1), and adjacent belt sections (2) longitudinally of the conveyor belt intermeshing with one another at the transverse rods (1), characterised in that the belt sections (2) have additional cross components (5) which extend between and are joined to the longitudinal components (4), and which are spaced from, and at opposite sides of the transverse rods (1) to, the main cross components (3).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 153 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 55 words
A conveyor belt according to Claim 1 characterised in that the additional cross components (5) have surfaces in the planes of those surfaces of the longitudinal components (4) which form supporting surfaces of the belt sections in use, said surfaces of the additional cross components (5) thereby providing further supporting surfaces of the belt sections.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 45 words
A conveyor belt according to Claim 1 or Claim 2 characterised in that the longitudinal components (4), main cross components (3) and additional cross components (5) are of elongated cross-section disposed on edge in the normal load supporting positions of use of the belt sections.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 65 words
A conveyor belt according to Claim 3 characterised in that the elongated cross-sections of the main cross components (3) are of narrow generally D-shape, the rounded sides of the cross-sections of the main cross components (3) of one of the rows of said components in each belt section (2) facing away from the other row of main cross components (3) in the belt section (2).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 95 words
A conveyor belt according to any preceding claim characterised in that the portions (7) of each longitudinal component (4) between the main cross components (3) and the adjacent additional cross components (5) extend at right angles to those components, and the portion (8) of each longitudinal component (4) between the additional cross components (5) joined to the longitudinal component (4) extend obliquely to the additional cross component (5), the portions (8) of the two longitudinal components (4) to which an additional cross component (5) is joined extending divergently away from the additional cross component (5).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 70 words
A conveyor belt according to any preceding claim characterised in that each belt section (2) extends across the full width of the belt and those of the longitudinal components (4) which are at the sides of the belt sections (2) have sockets (14) defined at free ends thereof, which sockets (14) receive the ends of the transverse rods (1) and retain the transverse rods (1) to the belt sections (2).
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 26 words
A conveyor belt according to any preceding claim characterised in that each belt section (2) is a unitary plastics moulding including the additional cross components (5).
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 64 words
A conveyor belt according to any of Claims 1 to 6 characterised in that the belt sections (2) are made of metal, each belt section (2) comprising a continuous metal strip bent to form the longitudinal components (4) and main cross components (3) of the belt section (2), and further metal strips secured between the longitudinal components (4) providing the additional cross components (5).
