Abstract

For the clear spatial division of an optical frequency mixture into a large number of very narrow frequency ranges, two dispersive elements (transmission grating, reflection grating, interferometer) are arranged one behind the other in the beam path in such a way that they produce diffraction figures in two mutually perpendicular directions and that the first dispersive element (35) has a very high profile high order of diffraction (e.g. N = 100 ... 1000) and a low order of diffraction (e.g. M = 1 ... 10) from the second diffraction element (34) fall into the beam path. The high spectral resolution of this arrangement enables a large number of applications: frequency multiplex data transmission via optical fibers, three-dimensional television, high-speed image recording, real-time spectral apparatus. In the case of optical data transmission via light source conductors, the spatial position of the pixels to be transmitted (level 32) is frequency-coded with a spectral apparatus (300) of the type mentioned and, after transmission through the light source conductor, is reconstructed with a second spectral apparatus (300 ') in an image plane (39).
