Abstract

Abstract A display surface (2) of the apparatus is divided into a plurality of picture elements each of which is capable of emitting red, green and blue light. Whereas in a conventional arrangement each picture element contains one light-emitting element of each colour, in the present invention each picture element contains one red light-emitting element (1R), two green light-emitting elements (1G) and one blue light-emitting element (18), the red and blue elements being controlled so that they are twice as bright as in the conventional arrangement. In one embodiment, the green elements are arranged in a matrix and are disposed at the corners of squares, with the red and blue elements disposed at centres of the squares throughout the matrix. In another embodiment (Fig. 7), the elements are arranged in a plurality of rows, with red and green elements disposed alternately in the odd numbered rows and green and blue elements disposed alternately in the even numbered rows.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 50 words
Apparatus for displaying coloured images, comprising a display surface divided into a plurality of picture elements each of which can emit red, green and blue light characterised in that each picture element consists of one red light-emitting element (1R), two green light-emitting elements (1G) and one blue light-emitting element (1B).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 50 words
Apparatus for displaying coloured images, comprising a display surface divided into a plurality of picture elements each of which can emit red, green and blue light characterised in that each picture element consists of one red light-emitting element (1R), two green light-emitting elements (1G) and one blue light-emitting element (1B).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 47 words
2 . Apparatus for displaying coloured images, comprising a plurality of red -, green - and blue light-emitting elements forming a display surface characterised in that there are twice as many green light-emitting elements (1G) as the number of red - or blue light-emitting elements (1R, 1B).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 47 words
2 . Apparatus for displaying coloured images, comprising a plurality of red -, green - and blue light-emitting elements forming a display surface characterised in that there are twice as many green light-emitting elements (1G) as the number of red - or blue light-emitting elements (1R, 1B).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 52 words
Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2, wherein the green light-emitting elements are arranged substantially in the form of a matrix and are located at the corners of squares and the red light-emitting elements and the blue light-emitting elements are arranged at the centres of the squares alternately throughout the matrix.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 112 words
Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2, wherein the light-emitting elements are arranged in a plurality of rows with red - and green light-emitting elements disposed alternately in odd numbered rows and blue - and green light-emitting elements disposed alternately in even numbered rows, the separation between adjacent light-emitting elements in the odd - and even numbered rows being the same the red light-emitting elements and the green light-emitting elements in odd numbered rows being positioned immediately above or below the green light-emitting elements and the blue light-emitting elements in even numbered rows respectively, the separation of adjacent rows being equal to the separation between adjacent light-emitting elements in each row.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 15 words
Apparatus as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein each light-emitting element comprises a cathode-ray tube.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 21 words
Apparatus for displaying coloured images, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to Fig. 4 or Fig. 7 of the accompanying drawings.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 21 words
Apparatus for displaying coloured images, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to Fig. 4 or Fig. 7 of the accompanying drawings.
