Abstract

Abstract in a flash-drying process wherein a solvent solution of a polymer or copolymer maintained at an elevated temperature and pressure isflashed into a flashing zone (d) maintained at a lower pressure than the pressure of the solvent solution through a means (C) for releasing said elevated pressure, thereby to evaporate and separate solvent from the solvent solution, increased proportions of solvent can be removed from the polymer or copolymer without adversely affecting the polymer or copolymer by feeding an inert stripping agent into a flow of the solvent solution at any point, for example through line 2, between said pressure-releasing means (C) and said flashing zone (d).

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 86 words
A flash-drying process wherein a solvent solution of a polymer or copolymer maintained at an elevated temperature and pressure is flashed into a flashing zone (d) maintained at a lower pressure than the pressure of the solvent solution through a means (C) for releasing said elevated pressure, thereby to evaporate and separate solvent from the solvent solution, characterised in that an inert stripping agent is fed into a flow of the solvent solution at any point between said pressure-releasing means (C) and said flashing zone (d).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 86 words
A flash-drying process wherein a solvent solution of a polymer or copolymer maintained at an elevated temperature and pressure is flashed into a flashing zone (d) maintained at a lower pressure than the pressure of the solvent solution through a means (C) for releasing said elevated pressure, thereby to evaporate and separate solvent from the solvent solution, characterised in that an inert stripping agent is fed into a flow of the solvent solution at any point between said pressure-releasing means (C) and said flashing zone (d).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 37 words
A process according to claim 1 characterised in that the inert stripping agent is water, nitrogen gas, carbon dioxide gas, a hydrocarbon having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a mixture of at least two of these.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 21 words
A process according to claim 1 or 2 characterised in that the polymer or copolymer is an elastomeric polymer or copolymer.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 31 words
A process according to claim 3 characterised in that the elastomeric polymer or copolymer is an ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer rubber, an ethylene/alpha-olefin/diene copolymer rubber, a propylene/alpha-olefin copolymer rubber or a diene rubber.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 26 words
A process according to claim 1 or 2 characterised in that the polymer or copolymer is an olefin plastic resin, acrylic plastic resin or epoxy resin.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 40 words
A process according po any one of claims 1 to 5 characterised in that the amount of the inert stripping agent fed is 5 mole% to 300 mole% based on the total amount of the solvent in the solvent solution.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 47 words
A process according to any one of claims 1 to 6 characterised in that the solvent solution at the elevated temperature and pressure is maintained at a temperature of 100 to 250°C and a pressure of 2940 to 3920 kPa gauge (3 to 40 kg/cm 2 .G.).
