Abstract
Abstract A tool holder for carrying a cutting tool is attached to a drive spindle (10). For purposes of making possible a rapid and easy exchange of the tool holder (16) while at the same time there is required a small working space the tool holder (16) is carried by an adapter (12), which interiorly guides a rearwardly projecting portion (18) of the tool holder (16). The tool holder (16) is clamped against the adapter (12) by applying a clamping force on a transversal abutting surface onthetool holder (16).

Claim 1
Independent Claim
144 words
A mounting device for securing a tool holder to a drive spindle, comprising an adapter (12; 31; 59) which, in use, is attached to the drive spindle (10; 30; 50) and carries the tool holder (16; 35; 52), characterized in that the adapter is provided with a central recess having at least one inner guiding surface (14, 15; 33, 34) for guiding a rearwardly projecting portion (18; 36; 53) of the tool holder, said portion projecting past said guiding surface, and a clamping means (20; 43; 55) which is adapted to apply a rearwardly directed force on an abutting surface (21; 37; '58) on the tool holder for clamping the latter against the adapter, said clamping means and said tool holder being separate members, said abutting surface extending in the transversal direction of the tool holder, and being positioned axially behind said guiding surface.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
37 words
A mounting device according to claim 1, wherein the abutting surface (21; 37) is inclined with respect to the longitudinal direction of the tool holder in such a way that it extends radially outwards and axially rearwards.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
26 words
A tool mounting according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the clamping means (20; 43) is moved radially inwards during the clamping of the tool holder.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
25 words
A tool mounting according to claim 3, wherein the clamping means comprises two substantially diametrically opposed locking means (20; 43), which are mutually forcibly interconnected.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
45 words
A tool mounting according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the clamping means comprises a first series of balls (20) adapted for cooperation with the abutting surface (21), and a second series of balls (23) which are positioned radially outwardly of the first series.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
39 words
A tool mounting according to claim 5, wherein the clamping means comprises a clamping member (27) which is adapted to move apart two consecutive balls (23) in the second series by wedge action during clamping of the tool holder.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
28 words
A tool mounting according to claim 6, wherein the force flow caused by the clamping member (27) alternately passes via balls in the first and second series, respectively.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
52 words
A tool mounting according to claim 7, wherein the balls (20) in the first series, preferably to a number of four, are equally spaced along the abutting surface (21), and that at leasttwo, preferably three, balls (23) in the second series are positioned between two consecutive balls (20) in the first series.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
31 words
A tool mounting according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the guiding surface (14, 15; 33, 34) is cylindrical, preferably comprising two axially spaced cylindrical portions having somewhat different diameters.
