Abstract In order to make possible effective compensation of bending in a cylinder for applying pressure to webs, especially an impression cylinder, even in the case of variable contact pressure while keeping maintenance to a minimum, a multiplicity of electromagnets (2) is arranged on the shaft (1), to each of which magnets is assigned a rotor (4) in the shell (5) and a sensor (7), the excitation of the individual electromagnets (2) being controllable via the associated sensors (7). <IMAGE>
