Abstract

The invention relates to a method for monitoring and minimizing splice losses in the splicing of glass fiber cables and an arrangement for carrying out the method. Splicing is a problem when laying fiber optic cables. A splice should have as little loss as possible. Optimal splicing of fiber optic cables is "in the field", i. H. without the tools of a laboratory, extremely difficult. The invention has for its object to provide a method and an arrangement for performing the method by means of which the fitter is able to monitor and minimize splice losses without great technical effort and without a power supply. The object on which the invention is based is achieved by the method according to the invention for monitoring and minimizing splice losses during the splicing of glass fiber cables, which is characterized in that the light output emerging from the splice point in the event of imperfect splice is photoelectrically scanned, that a signal which can be derived from the emerging light output is sensed is evaluated and that the splice point is adjusted until an achievable, predetermined minimum of the splice loss recognizable from the derived signal is reached.
