Abstract

Abstract The invention relates to an electrochromic display device (referred to as ECD hereinafter) which is stably workable for a long period and shows a long cycle life. The ECD of the invention has its feature in using a counter electrode which comprises a collector composed of a valve effect having metal such as titanium, tantalum, aluminum and the like, the metal being hardly soluble in an electrolyte, and a reactive material on the said collector and electrically connected to the said, collector, the reactive material being selected from reductant of tungsten oxide, iron berlinate and the like and being able to carry out a reversible oxidation reaction at a lower potential than that the said collector carries out an oxidation reaction.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 102 words
Electrochromic displaying device (ECD) receiving in an enclosed container, a displaying electrode (3) having a displaying substance reversibly conducting an electrochemical colour developing and decolourizing, a counter electrode (5) provided opposite said displaying electrode, and an electrolyte (10) contacting with said displaying electrode and said counter electrode, characterized by the fact that said counter electrode (5) consists of collector (6) and reactive material (15) electrically contacting said collector, said collector is made of a metal having valve effect and said reactive material is prepared from a substance causing oxidation reaction at a voltage lower than that which the collector would cause oxidation.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 102 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 23 words
ECD according to claim 1, wherein the metal having valve effect is one selected from the group consisting of titanium, tantalum and aluminum.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 37 words
ECD according to claim 1, wherein the reactive material (15) of the counter electrode (5) is one selected from the group consisting of the reductant of tungsten oxide, molybdenum oxide, iron berlinate and derivatives of iron berlinate.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 22 words
ECD according to claim 1, wherein the collector (6) of the counter electrode (5) is in the form of an expanded metal.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 30 words
ECD according to any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the collector (6) of the counter electrode (5) is used as a block instrument of the back base plate.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 350 words
The applicant respectfully requests under rule 88 correction of the following errors of transcription and mistakes in the originally filed description and drawings: On page 2 line 3 after "collector" the omitted reference numeral "6" has to be added. This is obvious from the statement of this reference numeral on page 2 line 7. On page 3 line 27 "titanium" has to be changed to "tântalum". This is obvious from the fact, that the description speaks of tantalum only on page 3 line 19 and especially 24. Like this the "tantalum oxide" of page 3 line 26 is of course formed on a tantalum surface as now stated. On page 4 line 4 "tatanium" has to be changed to "tantalum". This is obvious from "tantalum oxide" on page 3 line 26. On page 5 line 17 "vlave" has to be changed in "Valve". This is an obvious correction of an error of transcription. On page 6 line 7 "tiatnium" has to be changed to "titanium". This is an correction of an obvious error of transcription. On page 7 line 11 "indium" has to be changed to "indium". This is an correction of an obvious error of transcription. On page 7 line 27 reference numeral "1" between the words "plate" and "consisting" has to be changed to "12". This is a correction of an obvious mistake, since reference numeral 1 belongs to the front base plate quoted on page 7 line 26 and 27 immediately before the back base plate which reference numeral 12 belongs (cf. also page 3 line 11). On page 8 line 8 end of line "2-b" has to be added, since reference numeral 13 is not only part of fi g. 2a but also of fig. 2b. On page 8 line 1 9 "ion" has to be changed to "iron". This is a correction of an obvious error of transcription. On page 9 line 2 the words "a electrochemic" have to be changed to "an electrochromic". This is a correction of an obvious error of transcription (cf. page 1 lines 23 and 24, page 7 line 12).

Claim 9
Dependent Claim 40 words
Further the applicant requests correction of fig. 2A, where the detted serpentine line was by mistake drawn out from collector 6 into electrolyte 10. The correct configuration is shown in fig. 2B. Enclosed please find three copies of corrected drawing.
