Abstract

Abstract The full throttle or kick down engine speed of a vehicle provided with an infinitely variable transmission had to be high because of performance requirements and had to be low because of comfort (noise level) requirements. To meet both requirements the full throttle engine speed depends on the actual transmission ratio in such a way that at lower transmission ratios the full throttle engine speed is increased.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 76 words
An apparatus for controlling the transmission ratio of an infinitely variable transmission of a motor vehicle, the transmission ratio being adjustable in dependence on the position of a hydraulic control valve which is movable under influence of the difference between a required and an actual engine speed, characterized by means for limiting the maximum engine speed depending on the transmission ratio in such a way that a lower - transmission ratio enables a higher engine speed.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 76 words
An apparatus for controlling the transmission ratio of an infinitely variable transmission of a motor vehicle, the transmission ratio being adjustable in dependence on the position of a hydraulic control valve which is movable under influence of the difference between a required and an actual engine speed, characterized by means for limiting the maximum engine speed depending on the transmission ratio in such a way that a lower - transmission ratio enables a higher engine speed.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 21 words
An apparatus according to claim 1, characterized in that the maximum engine speed is substantially inversely proportional to the transmission ratio.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 65 words
An apparatus according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the hydraulic control valve on the one end can be loaded by a fluid pressure in dependence on the engine speed and on the other end is loaded by a spring which can be biased in dependence on the required engine speed, characterized in that the biasing possibility is limited in dependence on. the transmission ratio.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 42 words
An apparatus according to claim 3, wherein the spring is adapted to be biased through an axially movable operating member, characterized in that the maximum displacement of the operating member is limited by a stop movable in dependence on the transmission ratio.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 63 words
An apparatus according to claim 4, wherein the infinitely variable transmission comprises a V-belt transmission having at least one pulley, a conical disk of which is axially movable for adjusting the transmission ratio, which apparatus is provided with a sensor member for sensing the position of the axially movable pulley disk, characterized in that the sensor member is adapted to displace the stop.
