Abstract

Abstract A belt conveyor in which the belt travels around a lateral curve or curves and comprises load-supporting belt sections (2) pivoted between transverse rods (1), has guide blocks (4) at the ends of the transverse rods (1) with bearing parts (20) which co-operate substantially without friction with runners (5) at the or each curve to guide the belt in its travel with reduced wear and tension. Preferably the bearing parts (20) and runners (5) are made of self-lubricating material. In one form the bearing parts are horizontally facing channels (20) in the blocks (4) engaged by tongue portions (25) of the runners (5). The blocks each have two adjacent transverse rods (1) retained to them. The transverse rods are also connected by links (3) alternately arranged against external surfaces of the blocks (4) and in grooves (18) in the blocks where they are connected to the rods.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 13
Claim 1
Independent Claim 96 words
A belt conveyor in which the belt travels around one or more lateral curves and comprises a series of transverse rods (1) spaced apart longitudinally of the belt and a plurality of load-supporting belt sections (2) extending between and pivoted to the transvers rods (1), the belt being guided in its travel around the or each curve by runners (5) adjacent the sides of the belt, characterised in that the transverse rods (1) have at their ends and retained thereto guide blocks (4) having bearing parts (20) which co-operate substantially without friction with the runners (5).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 96 words
A belt conveyor in which the belt travels around one or more lateral curves and comprises a series of transverse rods (1) spaced apart longitudinally of the belt and a plurality of load-supporting belt sections (2) extending between and pivoted to the transvers rods (1), the belt being guided in its travel around the or each curve by runners (5) adjacent the sides of the belt, characterised in that the transverse rods (1) have at their ends and retained thereto guide blocks (4) having bearing parts (20) which co-operate substantially without friction with the runners (5).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 34 words
A belt conveyor according to Claim 1 characterised in that the bearing parts (20) are channels in the guide blocks (4), and the runners (5) have tongue portions (25) which project into the channels.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 32 words
A belt conveyor according to Claim 1 characterised in that the bearing parts are rollers or wheels which rotate about substantially horizontal axes and run on horizontal surfaces of the runners (5).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 45 words
A belt conveyor according to Claim 3 characterised in that the bearing parts are rollers or wheels which rotate about substantially vertical axes, and the runners (5) have tracks which face in directions laterally of the belt and in which the rollers or wheels run.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 27 words
A belt conveyor according to any preceding claim characterised in that at least the bearing parts (20) of the guide blocks (4) are made of self-lubricating material.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 30 words
A belt conveyor according to any preceding claim wherein at least the parts (28) of the runners(5) with which the bearing parts (20) co-operate are made of a self-lubricating material.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 65 words
A belt conveyor according to any preceding claim characterised in that each guide block (4) has the end portions of two transverse rods (1) extending through it which are adjacent to one another longitudinally of the belt, the block (4) being adapted to allow relative movement between the two transverse rods longitudinally of the belt when the belt travels around the lateral curve or curves.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 101 words
A belt conveyor according to Claim 7 characterised in that each guide block (4) has a circular hole (13) through which one of the pair of transverse rods (1) extends and a slot (14) through which the other transverse rod (1) of the pair extends, the circular hole (13) being of complementary diameter to the first-mentioned transverse rod, the slot (14) having its minor dimension complementary to the diameter of the second-mentioned transverse rod and its major dimension extending lengthwise of the belt, and the slot (14) allowing the relative movement between the two transverse rods (1) longitudinally of the belt.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 88 words
A belt conveyor according to Claim 8 characterised in that the distance between the remote portions of the peripheries of the circular hole (13) and the slot (14) of each guide block (4) corresponds to the distance between the remote portions of the peripheries of the two transverse rods (1) when the belt travels a straight path, such that when the belt is travelling a straight path the transverse rod engaged in the slot (14) is against the end of the slot furthest from the circular hole (13).
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 96 words
A belt conveyor according to Claim 8 or Claim 9 characterised in that the transverse rods (1) are connected together at their opposite ends by links (3) each of which has a circular hole (11) which is engaged by one of the two adjacent transverse rods, and a slot (12) which is engaged by the other one of the two transverse rods, the sizes and positioning of the hole (11) and slot (12) in the link (3) corresponding respectively to the sizes and positioning of the hole (13) and slot (14) of each guide block (4).
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 104 words
ll. A belt conveyor according to Claim lO characterised in that the links (3) which are connected to the same pairs of transverse rods (1) as the guide blocks (4) are positioned against external surfaces (17) of the guide blocks, and the links (3) which connect the said pairs of transverse rods (1) to the transverse rods immediately next to them longitudinally of the belt are connected to the transverse rods within the guide blocks (4), the guide blocks being provided with recesses (18) into which the links (3) extend and transversely through which the transverse rods pass to engage with the links (3).
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 148 words
A belt conveyor according to Claim 10 or Claim 11 characterised in that the belt sections (2) each have a circular hole (9) and a slot (10) respectively engaged by two of the transverse rods (1) which are adjacent to one another longitudinally of the belt, the hole (9) being of complementary diameter to the transverse rod by which it is engaged, the slot (10) having its minor dimension complementary to the channels of its transverse rod engaged in the slot and its major dimension extending lengthwise of the belt, the hole (9) and slot (10) being positioned such that the distance between the remote portions of their peripheries is greater than the distance between the remote portions of the peripheries of the two transverse rods, whereby when the belt is being driven the belt section (2) is not subjected to the tensile tractive loads on the belt.
