Surgical instrument with jaws
Abstract
Abstract A surgical instrument with distally arranged jaws which can be moved relative to one another, proximally arranged handles which can be manually operated relative to one another, and a transmission device with overload protection means that transmits the operating force from the handles to the jaws, is characterised in that the overload protection means has a force-transmitting component of an Ni/Ti alloy that is superelastic at the handling temperature and which is dimensioned such that it reaches the plateau of the stress-strain curve, at which it expands superelastically with approximately constant stress, before or when the overload is reached.
